Selling a vehicle in the Stan's

Hi

This summer I'm thinking of heading to Central Asia and if possible and it's safe on to Kabul. I should only have about 2 months for the trip and therefore would like to either leave the van somewhere with a view to picking it up and continuing a year later or selling it.

Does anyone have any info on this, have they done it before etc. I understand no carnet is required (Turkey, Georgia, Azeri, 5 stans and Afghanistan).

But what is the story when you arrive at the borders, do they write the details in your passport or give an extra stamp or how does it work?

Also what is the situation with leaving it there for a year or so, would there be any complications with customs, police etc.

I get the feeling Afghanistan may be the easiest country to try this but what about the others?

Thanks

Kevin

I had no trouble buying a Nissan Patrol in Bishkek in the Sunday auto mart or from a dealer. Simply go to a notary & make a power of attorney. Crossing to Tajikistan was no problem as far as the vehicle goes. You'll have to sell the vehicle in the country of purchase or take a big hit because of raskamuska (customs). Storing should not be a problem. Driver's license or insurance is not a problem. Cops can be a problem, drive only during the day.

No stamps or nothing for the vehicle, between Krygyz & Tajik. I would go to a much cheaper and less organized government than Afghanistan for purchase & papers.
