Sell motorcycle in Almaty

I'm currently travelling through central Asia and was wondering if it is at all possible to sell a motorcycle in Almaty, Kazakhstan? I've got a BMW f800 gs from 2008 in good condition and can't take it across china for obvious reasons. Would it be possible to import and sell or are there any travelers that have an interest in taking it over? I should be in the region around august/September this year. Thanks. Milo

Check the moto clubs in Almaty ... My Town Motors / KZ Motors is the best place to start. Ask them if anyone has an interest. There are a few F800s in Almaty. But bear in mind, whoever buys it there will have to pay a pretty large customs fee to get it legal and registered in KZ, so that will mean they have to buy the bike from you at the market price, less whatever it will cost them in customs fees to get the bike legal in KZ.

You bike is only a temporary import into KZ. To keep it in KZ, someome will have to pay KZ customs to have it permanently imported.

I'd love to buy that bike

.... but I guess you've already disposed of it. I'll be in Almaty in early June 2012. Am looking to pick up a bike for the trip to Europe. A European registered bike would be great, but anything considered.

So anyone out there want to sell one, please get in touch.

I'm in Almaty at the moment and looking to sell a 2002 XT600E (plus the panniers and some of my exped kit with it). It's running well but would benefit from a new rear shock (can be bought for £50 in UK on ebay and brought for 'free' or DHL'd for about $100), still got a spare rear tyre too - but from your dates I guess it's a bit late.
