Secure Parking in St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Volgograd

I'm riding down through Russia in June (from Finland to Ukraine), i'll be getting to St. Petersburg on the 9th of June and am concerned about parking my bike. Many hotels have 'parking' but its public parking in the street.

I need to get the St. Petersburg hotel/parking sorted soon enough as I need to make a hotel booking to get my Visa in place in time.

If it makes any difference, my bike is a 2000 Kawasaki ZX7R only worth around £1000 and will be locked to something with a big chain if possible.

Thank you,

Barry

My KLR650 of about the same value as yours was parked on the street outside city centre hostels for 4 days in Moscow and 5 days in St Petersburg. Security was a cable and padlock through the wheel and a dirty cover (this I consider the more important item) and I had no problems at all. I didn't see them in Moscow or St P but further east in Russia (where the locals are more worried about theft) I found no problems finding secure car parks which charged on average 100 rbls a day (about $4).

Hope this helps

This is very helpful. So essentially i can stay at any hotel, and just look for a secure car park nearby?

Thanks

Yes. The better hotels often have them (and you don't need to be a guest to use them) or look for автостоянка (roughly pronounced avto stoyanka).

Stayed in the Hotel right next to Mother Russia in Volgograd , Public car park no trouble or risk there ( it's very quiet at night ), it's the only hotel we stayed in where we were not advised to seek out these secure car parks.
Other places we stayed in we were pointed to secure car parks but only charged 50 rbls per bike, and the bikes parked right under the noses of the security hut. We had no problems just followed the advise of the locals
