russia: visas versus publicity

Hi everyone
Next year 5 of us from New Zealand are planning to head from Vladivostok to London. We're also aiming to raise money and awareness for a small grass-roots charity in Vladivostok that feeds the local homeless children. It is a legal, registered charity in Russia and New Zealand, and is run by a New Zealand woman.
We are planning to launch a website and start promoting the charity in about 6 weeks time (5-6 months out from departure).
My only concern is whether we'll be putting our chances of getting a Russian visa at risk by being associated with a charity (albeit a recognised, legitimate one).
Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences on this?
Cheers
Rob

Many people, including those traveling across Russia, are working with charities. It probably will not be a problem.
However, you probably shouldn't mention the association when applying for visas. Just get them the normal way. Don't have your charity sponsor your visa. Many bureaucrats just don't like having to do extra work (i.e. looking up this charity you listed on your application). Anything that puts the visa officer in a bad mood (extra work) increases your chances of problems coming up.
I would say to keep your official procedures and your charity work separate unless actually needed. Not for legal reasons, but to avoid confusion.
