I did that road few weeks ago riding solo. It´s not that bad, just a little bit of holes, stones and hot and no where to rest. Truck drivers will help. But the real problems start 100 km to Aral when you think is almost done. There is nothing else but sand. In Aral there is just one hotel (really expensive, about 4000 tenges) and no shower. But you can have shower in the pool at the end of the street, do not pay for it more than 200.

From Aral to east, everything gets better. In Turkistan there is affordable hotel beside the big Mosque. Enjoy the hell.

Thumbs up Shimkent

Not sure if you are heading this way, but Annie and I are currently in Kazakhstan - in and around Shimkent and then will be in Almaty Tuesday evening onwards collecting visas and doing work on my bike for a few days.
So if you're around and want to meet up for a , let me know.

cheers

Currently in Almaty Heading North

I'll probably be around the town tomorrow and will start moving north for the next week to Barnaul. SMS +1 310 279 7585 if you'd like to meet on the road... I'm riding solo and would enjoy company for a change.

Hiya guys, I'm now heading to Mongolia as well. It was my original plan but I decided against it a month ago (even gave away a map I got sent to me from england).

My Russian visa expires on the 30th so I'm gonna head to Mongolia and pick up a new Russian visa in UB. Should be riding with a pillion as well. Depending on how things go may try and buy a cheap russian 2-stroke after entering Mongolia for Eva to ride on and then sell it hopefully for the same price in UB. Never rode a bike before a week or so a go, but she did well riding the DR (very high seat, slippery knobbly tyres and tricky kickstart) so I reckon it'll be the most fun way to cross Mongolia.

Was hoping to catch you up Erdem, so let us know where you and and at what pace you're travelling at. Same for you Tiffany.

Lisa, Thomas...

I was hoping to attend your presentation almost a year ago in California when I was dreaming of my own Journey... I would LOVE to meet you here in UB if you are around still... Did you leave yet? I hope I didn't miss you... If not, please SMS +13102797585

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
