the stanleys !

hi phil.

in answer to 'is it worth?' - YES
we really liked Kyrgyzstan, fabulous.
Kazak - big ! with the capital of Almaty - expensive!
Uzbek - absolute must if you want the 'silk route' classic cities.
Turkmen - mmmmm interesting, i would say well worth experience but my advice would be do enter under a 'transit visa' and NOT book a 'tour'.

check my website and the download pages for some details. : www.travel.uklinux.net

loi's ???? changes regular, my advice here would be cotact David at StanTours, he's the 'man on the ground' he will be best to advise and help i think.

'ferry' on the caspian - this really is an optimistic description ! there's a regular boat and they take vehicles but you can't really call it a ferry!!!!! we crossed from Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan on one of the 'daily' boats for the '15' hour crossing. Of course we ACTUALLY waited 2 days for the 'daily' ferry and it took 36 hours to make the '15' hour crossing !!!
Not a complaint, in fact fabulous experience !

Phil

Brilliant, just what I'm looking for. If it starts sinking the coastguard helicopter will only be a few minutes away!!

I'll review the Stans situation when I get nearer. For some reason I'm going the opposite way to you which makes getting visas a bit more difficult. Can't remember why I'm doing that. They say old people forget, but I can't remember being forgetful.

Thanks again Phil

New to motorcycle travelling? New to the HU site? Confused? Too many options? It's really very simple - just 4 easy steps!

Horizons Unlimited was founded in 1997 by Grant and Susan Johnson following their journey around the world on a BMW R80 G/S motorcycle.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events (22 this year!); we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, the HUBB or to receive the e-zine. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
