Is the border closed though? COVID restrictions have been lifted, as far as I know.

Some (hopefully) helpful info

Hi Kenyon, Im in same situation as you. Started looking for options to get my motorcycle from Kazahkstan to Mongolia as riding through China is practically not possible and I wouldn't go through Russia out of disgust for what they are doing in Europe. Here's a company which claims that they organize shipping of motorcycles worldwide.

https://www.loxx.de/en.html

I just sent them a request for more info and will post once I hear back from them. Feel free to reach out to them as well, unless you've already found a shipper, in which case I'd love to hear about your experience.

If you can get your motor to Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan you may be able to ship it to Mongolia. Contact Mr. Liao at zq.liao@greatwaytour.com. It’s a pretty expensive service though. Also, keep in mind the Azerbaijan land borders are closed until at least until October 2.

Russian borders have been open for some time now, you just need to apply for a visa.

I'm sure many on here with a lot more experience but I have a USA passport with a USA plated motorcycle and rode Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan 2 months ago without any issues. I will be going to Mongolia and do not see any issues.
I read a lot of forums prior to crossing Russia and didn't think it was possible/ near impossible but it was very simple. Go to tourist company to get invite letter, pay fees, send passport to Russia and get back 2 weeks later with approval sticker.
Everyone in Russia were so happy and welcoming to see an American there. I feel people make going to Russia (or other countries) sound very difficult so they get more attention. Others read that and feel it's impossible.

I would've included a photo but the typical drag and drop, insert and browse to location and most other normal ways don't work for me.

To add to this topic while on map the distance between KZ and Mongolia is short, there are really no roads going in that direction. I rode earlier this year from Kyrgyzstan to Siberia via Karakol, eastern Kazakhstan and Altai along the Mongolian border and you pretty much have to go far north before you can turn south.

Not that I haven't tried to avoid it. At some point my cell was roaming on Chinese and Mongolian networks
