Petrol in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan

Hi,

I am just wondering if refilling of petrol is a problem in both Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan? Are there petrol stations along the main road or is there a need to carry spare?

Thanks

Hey KW,

We're in Kazakhstan right now and just left Kyrgyzstan. Access to petrol is not a problem. There are numerous stations on all the major roads. When we went on the minor roads we made sure it was never more than 400km to next sizeable town.

Once and a while you may have to settle for 80 octane instead of 93, but it our mileage efficiency didn't suffer too badly. Fortunatly not a problem for bikes, but there is some really nasty diesel out there.

Petrol in both countries is just under a $1US per litre.

Cheers, Mike

You'll only need extra fuel on 2 sections. First between 50km buyond Atyrau going towards Aqtobe and second around 150km out of Aqtobe on the way to Aral (where the 'superhighway' suddenly disappears). You'll prob want a 600km range for each of those. If you take a look at my fuel fill ups here: The Statistics Fuel , you'll be able to Google the places that definitely have fuel. Note that the refill in Irgiz was from a barrell where he charged double and cannot be relied upon.
