Part Delivery to Far East ( Help ? )

All,

My bikes rear shock started leaking oil and I'm about to start the 1500 km bone jarring road to Chita ( if you ca call it a road ? ) I'm stalling to find a replacement.

I'm trying to find a new, second hand, working replacement part.
Moscow BMW do not have one in stock.
My Tokyo BMW dealer does not have any in stock.

Can anyone advice as to a German or European Dealer that may have this item in stock, who are helpful to motorcycle travellers.
( I'm happy to DHL he item in, if I can find one )
Bike - 1992 BMW R100GS
Part No.: 3353 2322 734

Any help would be much appreciated.

C

i guess you are the man in blagoveschensk?
we tried to find this part and it seems there is no such shockabsorber in whole eastern europe.
your chance is to find local motocross team and ask for help. cross fingers they have an ancient CZ cross bike ( Slava was told about it) - it may suite. anyway cross people are real engineers and i'm sure they can find the way out.

I'll ask here in Zagreb, maybe they have one.

You know, leaking absorber isn't a big problem, weight is on the spring.
As your bike is heavy and probably packed with stuff, you even won't see a differance when driving.

Motorbelka & Nixa,

Thanks for your replys. Yes, I'm in blagoveschensk.
The bike club here have been very helpful and rebuilt the shock. I'm heading off tomorrow (west). But I was hoping to find a shock and have it meet me half way or even in Moscow.

Motorbelka, you mentioned that there is not one in Eastern Europe, any idea where I could find one, in Europe. Not being from Europe I'm a little lost as where to start. Any advice on any BMW dealers that are actively helping travellers.

Any advise, any at all , would be appreciated.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
