New member in Bishkek

Posted in the new member section but just figured I'd say hello in the Northern Asia section. Moved here in July from the US and am working and studying Russian. Bought a 1994 Dominator NX650 in late August so I'm enjoying riding the region!

"ride what you own where you are!"

Totally agree with this sentiment, but also ride whatever you can borrow (legally that is) where you are.

Hey there still.southern,

I'm sending my bike to Bishkek in the beginning of June. Do you know of a decent person/company who could help with customs clearance?

Cheers,
Lorry

Yes i do, He's a local russian biker who also speaks fluent Kyrgyz and English. I can try and find out what he would charge to do that...he's a translator so his English is fantastic too.

Lorry,

Got an answer from my friend. He typically charges $100. He's a very reliable guy and has helped me buy two vehicles here (motorcycle and sprinter bus). Is this temporary import or long term?

I have a feeling that this is the person who helped me import and sell my KTM990 in Bishkek last year... :biggrin3: I can HIGHLY rec'd his services!
@still.southern - I might try to swing by at some point this year while the weather allows...

Sure is since there is only one KTM990 in this country that I'm aware of! In fact, I saw it in passing at the opening of the season ride two days ago...the owner seems really proud of it.

PM'd you.

Indian bikes? Do you mean Royal Enfields? If so I'd love to get a look at them...they seem really cool.

There are a couple of us in or around the city on HUBB, there are other bikers here, but mostly they ride sportbikes. They hang out in the evenings at a restaurant called Palatka (literally "tent" in Russian, probably because it is a big tent).

Let me know if we can help you with anything.

BTW, I think Lorry's in Issyk Kul now, he left the city a couple days ago.

Thanks a lot southern. I am the second biker with kayjay. Both of us have Royal Enfield Bullets. Mine is Thunderbird and his is Standard original one. We would surely catch up with you.

Send me a message when you get here and we'll get together.
