Try this link from "chris in tokyo" or check out his posts.
Coming to Japan

He mentions that you can get insurance from any bike shop but this is probably for "local" bikes not "foreign".

Good luck.

Iceland is on my list. see you there.

There is a Red Baron motorcycle shop chain on highway 156, the main road from the port. About 10 km from the port. They have done it for other travelers in the past. Don't expect anyone to speak english though.
You want "jibaiseki-hoken" (manitory insurance).

hi,
i got motorbike insurance for my english bike within a couple of days from a local bike shop just outside tokyo. it cost me just over 5000 yen for third party for a month. i would just find the nearest bike shop to where you are based and inquire there. it shouldnt be a problem.

cheers, jasper

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
