Mongolia-no visa necessary with a US passport this summer

Called the Mongolian embassy in Washington this morning for current visa info.
I was informed that with a US passport a 90 day visa is being issued free.

What great news.
Anybody care to confirm?
Bill.

If you Google that, you will see the same news from other official Mongolian sources. They are finally taking a more prospective approach to tourism.
Can't wait to toe experience the yurt!

US citizens do not need a visa. You can just show up at the border.
This has been the case for many years.
Others need a visa, which you can get easilly at an embassy or consulate (there is one in Ulan-Ude, Russia).

Bill: note that, although US citizens do not need a visa to visit Mongolia for up to 90 days, if you will be in Mongolia more than 30 days you MUST register with the police within your first week in the country and de-register when you leave. This is fairly easily done, and is a separate residency requirement that is not connected to the visa issue.

US citizens who will be in Mongolia less than 30 days don't have to do anything.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
