fuel mongolia
It seems to be still a problem in UB to get diesel.
the west is at the moment no problem to get fuel.
Also diesel isnt a major prblem in the west.
We have contacted Oasis!

In June I went overland in Mongolia 4500 km: BayanUlgii-Khovd-Uvs-Zavkhan-Arkhangai-Dundgobi-Umungobi-Dondgobi-Tuv-UB. No problem getting any petrol anywhere, though it is expensive. In UB people still say that some petrol stations sometimes do not have fuel, but all the ones I saw had fuel. There is also a plan for Russia to provide more very soon so I think the main part of the crisis is over.

I don't know the situation with diesel but I saw many trucks in the countryside so they must be getting diesel somewhere.

What about the quality of the fuel? We will bring 25 liters of >90 octan fuel to mix up. But what you normally get at the petrol station? We read about 76 or 80 octan...

Currently in UB having crossed from the west on the southern route last week. In terms of fuel availability as we came across, 80-Octane no problem at all, most places have the stuff. 92-Octane also quite widely available, but can't rely on it and that may be what runs out first. 95+ Not even on the menu in small towns and nolonger available in larger places either. May still be in UB next week as I think I'm going to have a DRZ 400 alternator stator sent here...

We had no problems at all in Mongolia to get fuel, and diesel.
Everywhere diesel and 92, 80 available
From the west to Ulaanbator untill the south Zamin Uud.
We spent two days at the china border for paper work.

No Probelms With Fuel
We came in from the west 2 weeks ago, and we have had no problems with getting gas. Sometimes they only have 80, but they have always had something. We are now in Ulan Bator and we do not expect any problems before leaving.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
