Mongolia - desert, savana, taiga

I just returned from Mongolia.
We send motorbike by container a we flew. We hade KTM LC4 and LC8, without guide only by GPS and sovjet military maps. In Mongolia we were one month.
We cross Gobi desert from UB south to Khorkhoryn Els and next east to Sayshand. Gobi is really rugged desert, no people, no water, very long distance (aprox 350km between fuel stations).
We continue along China border to holy city Dariganga. There was a lot of gazels, like in Afrika. We hade big sand storm, one night.
Next we are heading to north across savana to Choylbasan and north to Russian border. Along Russian border we continue to east. There is taiga; we had a lot of rain. All rivers were flood. We cross many river crossings, we lost in mountains.
We hade 6000km without normal road, all is only path in desert or savana or offroad. We hade many problems with navigation, petrol and motorbikes. But all was good.
We returned to UB when there was big demonstration and communist main house was burned. Next tree day was martial law and curfew at night. In all UB was impossible to bought better petrol than 80OCT.
From UB we continued to Bajkal Lake, Irkutsk, by train to Moscow and across Latvia, Lithuania and Poland we returned home to Prague.

Good adventure

Beba,
Man you guys did a great ride and thanks for the excellent pics.
I should be in Mongolia about the first week in September and
would be happy if I rode half of the ride you guys did.
So did you ship you bikes back by container or on the train.
Twist it, Max

Hi

I just finished yesterday my round trip of Mongolia on my KTM. I am on a slow connection in Ulgii, so can't see your pictures. I'll take a look at them when I get back to Sweden in a few weeks. I'll write a post about my trip when I get back with some useful information for the next Mongolian rider...

Mongolia is, after Albania, my preferred country.
There is story from last year:

I went together with my wife on one motorbike!

Beba, thanks for sharing, great stuff!

Question for Jarax -
how did the new BMW F800 GS do?
Just curious, looks like a great bike, filling
the gap inbetween the heavy weights (GS1200, 950 Adventure)
and the 650's. Any mechanical problems?

Beba, those pics are stunning, the ones with the incoming dust storm are incredible!
