Mongolia: Dalanzagdad to west
 

Hi, planning a route from UB to the Tashanta border. Anyone gone from Dalanzadgad west to Bayantsagaan/Bayan-Ondor? Would seem like a good route but fuel availability remains a questionmark. Our 2 bikes autonomy is about 500km's, enough or not?

Hi, I just rode from Gurvantes to Dalanzagad, appr. 300km. Fuel is not an issue, if you are ok with 76 and 80 octane. I had no problems on my 1100GS BMW. The big towns have a fuel station. The road map of Mongolia, to be purchased in UB, has them located, good map anyway.

Vesa: Fuel availability should not be a problem, every small town has a fuel station. You should fill up when you have the chance, even if you only need a few liters, just in case the next place is empty.

Most often only 76 is available in the countryside. Most bikes still run OK on that.

Several people have done the UB-Tashanta route this summer, and no one reported any trouble with finding fuel. The word they use in Mongolia is the same as in Russia: Benzene.

we are 4 riders riding london to vlad and shall also be riding the northern mongolian route next month .
scott wonder if we could catch up while in u.b.
one question , what are the road conditions like on that route .

Hi Mick: Will you be entering Mongolia at the Tashanta crossing in the Northwest and then riding the northern route to UB, or entering from Ulan Ude down to UB and then riding out via the west?

The northern route is rough. Plan on a lot of time in first or second gear. The southern route is better, though also hard on equipment. If it rains much while you are on the northern route you may have to wait a few days for rivers to go back down, and for mud to dry up. Beautiful route, though.

Look forward to seeing you in UB. When do you estimate you will be in Mongolia and UB?

we are coming east so shall cross into mongolia from tashanta the hopefully go the nothern route arriving u.b around late august ,again hopefully .
