Mongolia: Air shipment embargo
 

I was told on Friday last week, 1 July, that there is an "air shipment embargo" on Mongolia supported by at least Korean Airlines and China Air.

This has me scrambling for a path into north Asia/Siberia with my motorbike and while I doubt many will be impacted or even care but . . . you have been warned.

The latest news from the US this AM in Seoul was that the embargo was expected to last thru month's end. Given that the Nidaam starts in 2 days getting a air ticket in/out of UB will be difficult and so making alternative plans is . . . tricky.

We are in UB right now and have arranged shipping by air to Bangkok. No problem, just expensive (3500 USD). With Korean Air. See the trip transport forum for details.

So that info you mentioned seems to be incorrect.

Oh and tickets for people also no problem (at least outbound). Around 450 EUR.

I actually posted this because I had/have doubt(s) about what I'd been told.

However, it's also possible that the embargo has simply ended . . . or that the information I received is, indeed, incorrect.

In any case, it's ended my trip. After 2 weeks of struggling and failing to get the bike to Vladivostok I'm back in LA and semi-investigating flying to Frankfurt and riding from there.
