Mongolia: 25000km in 2 months?

Hey guys,

Im planning to travel to Mongolia next summer, detailed plan is to travel from Czech republic to Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Iran, then small central Asia countries and then Mongolia. Way back would be across Kazakhstan and Russia. Overall 25000km.

And my question is: do you think its possible to manage this trip in 2 months? We dont plan any long stops (mean several days), but it shouldnt be crazy race with no time to see anything.

Is here someone with similar experience?

Thanks for your opinion!

Katarina

Hi,
It's possible if every thing gone go well.
It's bit tight schedule but achievable with good planing.

I did similar journey 2010. 24 000 km / 70 days but there was some misfortunes with what takes more than a week.

Mean thing is proper gear up and preparing with bike etc.
You can't use too much time for planing because every hour of good planing will be paying back ten times on the road.:innocent:

Thanks a lot. I was thinking about one, max two weeks extention, but its not easy to combine it with work.

One more information - Im not travelling with bike, I will use Lada Niva, because of easy accesible repairs and terrain.

I think this would be easily done.

Hi there, I might be doing a similar trip starting the first days of May from Spain so maybe we could arrange meeting at some point if you intend to start in early month of May.

We can stay in touch...we are still considering some options...is your itinary ready yet?

Or.... ride to Mongolia and fly yourself/ freight bike home. It'll save you a long/boring ride and you have more time to see things on the way out.

Rioja del 73 16 Nov 2012 23:07

My trip is a an open one so all I have decided is leaving on the 2nd of May heading East.

Chris, has anyone sent the bike back home from Mongolia by land? (I mean cheaply enough to consider). If I had the chance I would also consider parking the bike for 12 months but have already read it its not possible.

I will leave the 2nd of June 2013 from the HUBB UK meeting going east, end point will be either UB or Vlad, not sure yet.
But since I am a "I want to see a lot of countries type" I will do it in 4 months. I have more or less a route sorted out, so if this fits anybody's plan and timing, let me know as alone is also alone... ;-)

EU start in June > July > August > September back in EU.
pm or mail me if interested in the whole or a part of the journey. I do like offroad btw so I won't stick to the highwaystuff!

Parking is possible: See post #12 at http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...sections-65842 You also posted in this thread.

Post #5 at http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...mongolia-61823 gives you some prices to look at.

When I was in UB this summer a Dutch chap was sending his bike back to Holland.

Hello everybody...Katarina, Zafod, Rioja, Seb, ...

I guess it will be quite busy on the roads, direction east, next year :-)
I'm also going that way, starting mid may from Belgium. I first make a trip through south-east Europe (till Montenegro-Albania), than heading up to Georgia and later through Russia/Kazachstan till Mongolia...and at last back to Belgium over Russia. The trip is not yet completely fixed but this is the general idea.

Anyway, if someone is interested to hook up somewhere on the road...having a meet and changing our expieriences...or maybe someone who wants to do a part of the trip together (my girlfriend speaks Russian, so that could be very usefull for everybody :-))...just let me know and get in touch (erik ddot fleurent att gmail ddot com)

Cheers, Erik

To give a better idea, I included a small map of the (not yet completed) planned trip :-)

This is my intended route:
From Irkutsk to Moscow I'll take the train, should this be impossible for a reason then I'll ride the whole boring way...

That's a heck of a lot of territory to cover in two months....
