May 2013-Vladivostok to Portugal or England

I want to ride Vladivostok to Portugal or England this sumer.I am not great at planning.I just want to go and see where I end up.Flexible.I would like to go through Mongolia.I will ride an '06 klr650.I prefer riding solo. But in remote roadless areas it would probably be better to have a companion.I like challenges. But being stuck by myself in the middle of God's country alone,is not something I look forward to.If I got out alive,I guess it would be a great story to tell. But I would rather just get out.I know very little about Asian travel.I am reading and learning.I think I will probably ride my bike from Cincinnati to Vancouver and ship it to South Korea. Then ferry it it to Vladivostok.

I am making a list of places that I think I should see from reading ride reports.Other than that,I have no idea what I should see.I don't plan on making this an extended trip because I am married. And by taking a reasonable amouint of time,my wife may allow me to take more trips.

I don't mind being off road. But being alone I prefer to take routes that are easier on the bike-to ensure I can complete me trip.Especially since I have no backup.

I don't know any Russian yet.Hopefully by May I will be able to say Hello and Good bye.I don't know where I might travel, other than Russia and Mongolia.I have read reports of people going to many countries that I thought were unsafe. But if others are going there I might consider going also.I would like to go to the Netherlands.Last mouth I got a letter from someone that met my father during WWII.I would very much like to meet them.

I hope to find GPS tracks for these areas.Because I have a history of getting lost.I have found a few so far.

I have used some OSM maps before.I have downloaded maps for Vladivostok through Europe.I hope to find tracks from people who have traveled parts of my expected route.I have used maps that show roads where they weren't.With tracks I feel more trusting-knowing that a person was actually there.(Hopefully not in an ultralight or hiking).

Your thread on OSM is very helpful.I saved it to my favorites. Thanks

I did that last year, I think that's what you are looking for here is the gpx file of the trip:
Mergefile.gpx | PutLocker

However, for Mongolia, don't follow my track to the Goby, there is no fuel station for 500 km. I was able to go through it only because, before going on this track, I met a 4x4 that could carry 20l of fuel for me until halfway were we separated.
Any way, you could try meet up with other riders/overlander in UlanBataar at Oasis guesthouse. If not I suggest you stick to the south road, doable in solo.

A lot of riders told me that Kyrgystan and Iran are great countries. So you might consider going throught the "Stan Road".
In Russia, the Altai, is for me the best region, try to spend sometime there.

Have a nice trip!
