Leaving a bike in Northern Asia

What's up HUBB,

Does anyone have a suggestion for leaving a bike for four to eight months in any of the 'Stans, Russia or Mongolia? Experiences, pitfalls? Things I have to do when entering the country that can't be done/undone once I'm in as far as visas, vehicle stamps in passports, special documents from customs?

Thanks everyone, I've had a last minute change of plans and I think I'm headed North rather than Southeast from Turkey.

Mongolia, yes, some paperwork to sort. Needs to be imported.

Kyrgyzstan, yes, easiest. No hassle, lots do it.

Russia: BIG no.

Wicked thanks Chris. I'll research in that direction.

Get in touch with MUZTOO, they're in Osh and for a small fee you can leave your bike with them. Lots of folks do it.

I agree Kyrgyzstan easiest (I'm here now) and also no visa needed so easy for you to come back and easy to get visas (Russian visa in own country) in Bishkek for onward travel, it is also ideal location to head off for next trip

Great mechanics here also for any work needs doing or modifications.

I like Kyrgyzstan alot*

I'm still working out the details of my plan B. I'm in Turkey headed for iran, visa in hand but I missed my tour date due to customs in Turkey taking their sweet time with my paperwork. It still might be a possibility but I won't find out until I get to Gaziantep.

My question is can I get visas for Russia and the 'stans in Georgia? I see all the consulates are there but I'm wondering, if say Russia, requires you to obtain your visa from your country of origin.

Thank you for your help while I'm on the road!

What about leaving a bike in Kazakstan for ten months? Up North in Aktobe?

Kazakhstan and Russia (and Belarus) are in a customs union, so I imagine it's a No too.
