Kyrgyzstan-China-Pakistan June/July 2013 - Looking for travellers to share China cost

Hi

My wife and I are from Malaysia and we are currently travelling overland from the UK back to Malaysia.

We are planning to visit the Stans and then head to Pakistan via China. We are now in Austria and estimating to arrive at the Kyrgystan/China border sometime late June / early July 2013.

We have received a quote from NAVO and as the cost for China is quite expensive for the two of us, we are looking for fellow travellers to join in and share the cost.

If anyone is interested in joining us in June / July 2013, please contact or PM me.

Happy travels.

Cheers,
Loren

My group will enter China on July 9th. You can join us if you want till Pakistan border...

Hi Sambor,

Thanks so much. How many days is your group planning to make the crossing? Could you message me your itinerary as well as the cost? How do we proceed if we decide to join your group?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
loren

Hi loren

If there is any chance of your going at the end of September rather than July, we'd be happy share our trip: we are also really keen to get more vehicles with us as the costs are so high.

We'd be going from Mongolia though....

NAVO are very expensive, probably the MOST expensive, and give generally such crap service.

They would be the last one's I would use.

Hi!
My wife and I are looking for the same options as you are I guess. We'll be in the beginning of september in central asia, and are looking for a shipping to India/Nepal or a group to join to cross China. I would be happy to discuss about it with you

Hey guys,

We're actually planning to do this crossing at just about exactly the same time as you - probably around mid - July 2013. We'd be really happy to join a group if we could to split costs. However, I've been looking into it and I think the cheapest option might be to go with the CBT (community based tourism) from Naryn, booked in country rather than in advance. It's still expensive, $175 p/p based on two people, cheaper if you can fill the transport, but options are limited in that area!

My boyfriend and I are also just looking into out Chinese visas at the moment; can any of you guys share your experiences with me for applying for a visa when you'll be doing a border crossing into a restricted area (ie. Xinjiang)? At the visa office we've been told that they won't give visas to anyone planning to go into Xinjiang, and we need to produce a flight ticket, itinerary and even some hotel bookings to get our visa for anywhere in China. We've been in and out of China for the past three years, and we've never had to do any such thing until now! I'm also wondering, if China is so desperate to keep foreigners out of Xinjiang, why is the Kyrgyzstan border still open for tourists at all? Does any one have any recent reports to confirm we really could get through the border at all?

Cheers guys, get back to me on this thread or pm me if you want.

Hi Apologies for the late reply. We have pin down our date and will enter china on 13 Aug. Guillaume, this might be too early for you.

Hi, we are planning entering China on 13/8. We will be applying for our China visa in the next couple of weeks. So far our agent have not mentioned anything about not being allowed to cross Kyrgyzstan / China border. Advise given to us when applying for visa: you are better off not mentioning these words: self-drive, Xingjiang and Tibet province, and just say you want to do a normal travel in China, which will help you increase the chances to get the visa.

Its normal they want prebooking of flight and hotel to get chinese visa. Later it does not matter. Chinese guards on border are kind and generally no problem if no forbidden books etc.

We crossed KYR-CHN border line without any problems (ok with one we had car and finally we had to left it in the nearest chinese army structures). After border line is zone where only cars with permit can drive - that is why or You book car (in Kyrgystan) what will pick You up from i.e Irkestam to Wucha or You need to find something just after entering to china. Guards will not allow You to travel alone by this zone (its ca 100km of road under construction - data from 2012 - ca 4 h or drive). From Wucha You can do whatever You want if You direct out of border zone i.e. to Kashgar. Taxi is cheap. In Wucha You will receive stamp of entering into China.

Good luck
