Kyrgyzstan bike export question

Hi,

We're stuck in Kyrgyzstan & trying to organize shipping the bikes (to Bangkok).
Some (not all) agents have asked for a "Certificate Of Origin" ($30). One agent has also mentioned an 'Export Tax' for our bikes: $260 for a 2002 BMW Dakar, $520 for a 2005 BMW Dakar.

We have our original V5 documents with us + the international registration documents (in russian/persian/...)

Apparently, our problem is that we didn't get any documents for the bikes when we entered the country. Still: Such a hefty export tax seems a little over the top, no?

Anyone got any information about this/Kyrgyz regulations?

Thanks a lot!
Bjorn

Bjorn,
It's because you brought in the bike as a vehicle, but if you're not riding it out, it is considered to be goods. You could always ride out of the country then come back in again, getting the registration as you come back in. Would only end up costing you $50 or so in visas and you could take the chance to have a quick squiz at the Altay mountains.
