Kazakstan - Russian Border Crossing at Leninogorsk/Ridder?

I am planning to enter Kazakstan via the "E40" road from Karagai in Russia (Altai Region) which ends up in Leninogorsk (Ridder). Some have advised that this is in fact a dead-end and that there is no border crossing. My Russian Road atlas (2004 ed.) shows a border crossing - has anyone been here and crossed the Russian/Kazakh border?

ANy help much appreciated.

Regards,

Adrian

hello,

i crossed near semipalatinsk.
more details on :
http://vincent.danna.free.fr/infos/kazakhstan.html

i don t know about "your" border.

but remember that there are bilateral borders (for the citizens of the countries nearby) and official multilateral or international borders (for everyone, among them the overlanders)

good luck

David from Stantours sent me this email yesterday as am planning a similar corssoing next year.

"Do think of us for the Russian visa as well, Let's hope that new Altay
border crossing for you opens up (Ust Kan to Ridder ./ Leninogorsk)."

David mentioned this possibility to me about 3 months ago, you might want to contact him for the lastest. Do a web search on stantours or emial me for his address. he is very biker friendly

Cheers
