Turkmenistan - late June 2010

Hi All...

Was going to join the group going across Turkmenistan with the help of Stantours ala this thread http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...a-2010-a-45032 but I couldn't make the dates work. Went so far as getting the TM and UZ LOIs and a deposit for that trip, but after seeing that it wasn't going to work for me, I was just going to try to go on a transit permit a couple of weeks later. David from Stantours felt that I might have trouble getting a transit permit after having obtained (and not used) an LOI, so he and I just set up another trip.

Plans are to have someone from his office waiting in Turkmenbashi when I arrive by ferry on June 24th to help sort out the visa stuff, then start out the next day. Will head to Ashgabat and from there, either north to UZ via overnight at Darvaza or east through Merv and Farab. Route is flexible at this point and depends a bit on if there are any other takers. Looks like about 5-6 days in TM altogether.

Would be great to ride with others, so if interested in joining, please PM me... or if you're REALLY interested, it's probably more important that you contact David at Stantours as he can give you all the important details. It seems like a good way to solve a lot of the TM issues... which is why I was originally interested in joining the other group.

In any event, I'll be watching for a bunch of ya in the 'stans. If you see a '75 BMW R60, and an old guy with an orange jacket, that'd be me.

In Bulgaria now, into Turkey tomorrow. I've been out 45 days now... rain every day.

Have a good summer everyone!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
