kazaksthan visa

hello all ,recieved my visa the other week for kazakstahan.obtained a 1 month visa with my bike on it .will be leaving for russia on 3 july 2 weeks later than planned so will be hopefully arriving in kazakstahan but may not get there till early august.does any body have any idea if my visa can be extended in kazaksthan with thanks paul trying to ring consulate but no reply.

Parko, you can get a visa extention in Amaty.

The visa has nothing top do with your bike, all you need is the bikes paperwork (logbook), IDP, ICMV will help you and to buy the 3rd party insurance at the border. About 20 USD for 15 days.

Not sure what type of visa you have but about a week ago I was flatly refused an extension on my tourist visa in Almaty.

While registering in the OVIR I asked about this and had a friendly english speaking guy who even wrote a brief letter for me in Russian requesting the extension (and saying that I had a flight from Kaz after visa expiration - he just made this up for me) but it was over-ruled by superiors.

I heard a business visa can be extended.

Redboots, are you an ex-pat/or have you spent much time in the region? Perhaps you can hekp me - I'm about to buy a bike in Almaty but I understand rego is a problem (for a tourist), However, I've heard one way is to get a trusted local to register then they provide me with a 'power of attorney' letter authorising the use of the bike. Can you add two cents here?

Hi, Its John (& Mick) we had a couple of s in Almaty!
Have you had any joy with the bike yet?

We are now in China. We met a Norwegian guy (Helge) on a Jawa 350 at the border without any docs for his bike. He has now left his bike in Kaz and entered China buy bus! He will now fly on to Thailand. Its a bummer for him.

Glad to hear you're in China.

Bike situation not looking good for me, think I'll pull the pin and stick to the feet. Basically it amounts to this: the extra cost of the XT660 here compared with Germany (where I found out I can get one for EU6000) + the the loss from the wear and tear/kms + cost of shipping out my gear + foreign ex etc, means that when I eventually sell in Germany I'll realise a loss of up to US$5000. As much as I want to do the trip and ride a bike through the Pamirs it's just too crazy.

Anyway, I look forward to our next (in Germany?), enjoy the trip, say g'day to Mick!
