How to get oil in Samarkand?

Hi fellow travellers,

I'm currently on the way to Samarkand with a broken shaft drive. It's leaking. I'm riding a BMW 1200 GS Adventure (2006 version). Does anyone know how to get oil for the shaft drive in Samarkand? According to my manual I should use a
Castrol SAF-XO.

Do you know whether I could use another type of oil instead? And how about a good mechanic nearby?

Thanks for your help guys.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Try to get something with this: SAE 90 hypoid gear oil, API Class GL 5.

Brand does not really matter, GL 5 & SAE 90 does.

Thank you for your reply! I hope I will get the oil!

does not sound like broken shaft drive but damaged final drive seal- easy to replace if you have a spare-
oil yeah as above works - get the fully synthetic if you can.
gud luck fella

Hello Wolfgan, were are you know? I'm in Samarkand right now, with an old R100GS, some issues with the shaft, makes noise and has hard spots when i turn the wheel...

I'm thinking of putting my bike on a truck to go to kazakhstan, how did you bring you bike here? On a truck?

Thanks for your help

David
