How to get your GBAO permit in Dushanbe for $3

I did a blog post here: Overlanders Tips: Getting your GBAO Permit in Dushanbe for $3 | Sirocco Overland | Сирокко Оверленд

thought others may find it useful.

Walter, could you add the co-ords to your Database if you don't all ready have them?

Heading into the Pamirs tomorrow or Friday :thumbup1:

Odd, There are no boobies on it, honest :nono: :) and the pics are all re-sized small (<500kb).

We had a bit of trouble getting logged in from UZB but I think it was mostly the poor connection.

Anyone else having issues?

michael you need a Tajik visa to enter Tajikistan so i would advise to get your GBAO visa at the same time you apply for this but you must state GBAO on your visa application as its a lot easy, as Griffdowg says on his blog he got his visa in one day but this is not common practice and as it can usually take 2-3 days.

However if you have forgot to add GBAO on your visa application then this is a good option

Some embassies are not offering a GBAO permit at the time of visa application. The Embassy in Istanbul did not issue GBAO permits last year (not sure about now) so this was the only way for us. Easier to get it when you get your visa yes, but I have seen prices for this anywhere between $25 and $50 USD just for the GBAO.

Enjoy the road this year guys, really miss being out there :thumbup1:

I got a GBAO permit in Istanbul 2 months ago, but this is a good source of information if you happen to not have one when entering Tajikistan.

Istanbul, Bishkek, London have all issues me a GBAO visa at the same time with no issues

Always good to have options like this if for some reason embassy don't issue this visa

Apparently the Berlin embassy doesnt provide GBAO's and I asked my visa agent, he said 60 euro!! Thats to steep I think, so will need to get it another place or when there...

Here to confirm that it still works. With all the Pamir angst I noticed while on my way to Dushanbe the last week I was slightly sceptical. News of people waiting one or two weeks and flying to other countries to get the permit did not make me feel at ease.

But, go to the bank, lady understands me and goes to work. The permit is now the European price of a beer: $4. Out in two minutes with a receipt. Go to the office, guy in the left booth copies my passport and visa, prints out a form, does not want any money and directs me to the third booth. There I am told to come back the next day at 10am. Pleaded to get it on the same day to no avail. No problem, happy to get one in the first place. He said it it gives access to 7 areas.

Going to pick it up in two hours. If you do not hear from me then I am making sweet love to Tajikistan (the Alp just likes to tag along and watch).

Thanks for that great writeup.

I also did this around two weeks ago, was very easy and cheap!

Thanks for the tip!
