Help, stuck in Bishkek

Me and the wife have just rode over from China to Bishkek and have blown a fork seal on our Vstrom.
I havent checked in town yet but i dont think anyone will stock them , where will be the quickest place to source them and get them sent to me here.

Cheers Clive and Chris

DHL to bishkek? Pricey but should take only a few days

Do you have any dealers/shops in UK that have the part in stock? Do not at any cost use parcelforce/RM as that will go via moscow, and once that parcel goes in, it probably won't leave again..

I've had very good experiences with DHL around the world (to Almaty, Dushanbe and Nouakchott).

But how blown is blown? Can you ride on and meet the parts somewhere later on? I've also "repaired" some seemingly major fork leaks by cleaning the seal with a thin feeler gauge.

Sokuluk

Hello, Sorry to hear of your trouble. I live in Sokuluk, about 30 km from Bishkek. If you know what size the seals are we can look at the bazaar and try to find one that will fit. I have a 2008 KLR, if the seals are the same I have some here. If you need a place to work on the bike, we have that too. If I can help, call me 0551500998.

have only just noticed it pulling up to hotel in dark, there is a fair bit of oil everywhere, i think i have been riding like it for a few hours, very rough roads and the last 100ks good road.
so probaly ok to limp to a cheaper hotel {going to be here for a while by the looks of it} then to a mechanic

It is probably just dirty and extended riding has caused the excess leak. I sent you a link about cleaning them but here it is again

http://www.stromtrooper.com/v-strom-...ent-dl650.html

If you can clean it using that info then it may be possible to get parts in Almaty. I have a contact there who can help, he used to have a Vstrom so may know where to get them if you cannot source them in Bishkek

I have 2 spare seals for a 2006 KLR. I'm waiting on a crankshaft in Ulan Ude. If it fits yours, I could send one to you.

Sorry for not seeing your posts, I haven't been on HUBB for a few days. I sent you a PM but it looks like things are already settled for the fork seal. If you're still in town for a few days I'd love to meet up somewhere. It's always interesting to meet travelers who are coming through. Have fun camping.
