Fixed it!

Thanks guys

So i drove this morning to motohaus where some locals told me i'd be better off going to motocenter on the otherside of town, where there was a skilled mechanic (Victor is still away).

Followed one of them over (gps coordinates to come) and was able to repair the shock there. I hate to say i can't remember the mechanic's actual name, but they called him (english pronunciation) Star-E (old man). Star-E called a local biker who some on here know, Andre, who speaks english, to come over and translate. Real nice guys, had me out to a moto festival after.

It was simply a matter of replacing worn o-rings, then filling up with shock oil. Because no one had a hypodermic needle, Star-E replaced the rubber/silicone fill port by threading a regular wheel nipple into a tapped bolt that could thread into where the old fill port went. Managed to fill to 100psi or so. It works great, hopefully it will last.

Seeing that it took only an hour or two to fix (with help and advice from the hubb of course), I wonder why so many wait for weeks to receive new shocks and parts?

Anyway, thanks again for the help everyone and i'll post GPS coordinates asap :thumbup1:

At least you asked for advice before just waiting weeks for spare parts ... in buttfukk Kazakhstan bier

Some guys have had shock bodies that bent in half tho ... no fix for that. Sometimes you have to get new parts jetted in - but yeah, as a general rule "Russian bikers can fix it" is a pretty good motto to live by in those parts. The best advice I can give anyone travelling through that part of the world, is if you get into mechanical trouble, try and limp to within contact range of local bikers. You will be amazed at how quickly insurmountable problems can disappear. Even in remote regions where there are no local bikers, car, truck or even train mechanics often jump at the chance to help out.

Glad everything is back on the road for you mate. And am grateful for the GPS co-ords when you have them :) Will update my file with them :) :mchappy:
