Help needed in Moscow

Hey guys

We just arrived in Moscow today from the UK on our way to Vladivostok in our Landrover.

My starter motor is now playing up (at the worst possible time!!). It still works intermittently but we would like to try and get it reconditioned - replace the bushes solenoids etc.

The engine is a 3.9 Diesel Isuzu 4BD1 as fitted in Australia.

Would really appreciate if anybody could put me on to an auto electrician that might be able to help us.

We are staying in a hostel called Godzillas Hostel in the North of Central Moscow

Many thanks in advance

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Callum

A couple of suggestions.
- James the guy who owns Godzilla's would probably know, good guy.
- Otherwise there is the guy you drives for them, he may also know.
- Another suggestion, the guy who owns Chillax around the corner (down the street and turn right) also sells cars, he may be able to help.

Thanks Craig

Today we have just drawn a blank!

We drove to some place through Moscows infamous traffic only to find we were given the wrong address!

Have tried asking all the staff here at Godzillas but with no success!

Chasing up another few leads at the moment and then will check out your suggestion.

Fixing a starter should be the easiest thing to do! Just not this time ha ha!!

No worries. Having similar problem with my 950. The starter spins but does always engage. Only just started happening expect I am in Khazakstan. At this stage I will continue to Barnaul then decide weather to limp it to Vlad or try to get it fixed there.

When are you planning to hit Mongolia?

Sadly, Moscow is too westernised these days. No-one fixes things much now - they just buy new.

Assuming you can 'limp' east when you have had enough of our local night life (the legendry Hungry Duck is reopening this Friday after being closed down a few years ago - Google it and it's Ladies evenings to get the idea:eek3:) I would suggest you call in to smaller towns along the way and ask around. For auto electricians, not girls!.

The further east you go the more they depend on repairing skills instead of fitting new.

on the other hand there are landrover dealers in moscow and you might be able to find a new one.

[EDIT] there are also lots of 4x4 enthusiasts in Moscow, i see lots of snorkelized landrovers in the city, just google.

personally I would fix it in moscow before leaving. somewhere else you mind find a mechanical genius and you might find some hack that will leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.
