Help with motorcyclestorage and travel in central Asia

Hi fellow adventure riders,

I am planning to ride from Amsterdam towards Kazachstan/Kyrgyzstan together with a good friend on two Africa Twins. We are planning to do this in two stages.
We are looking for a place or a country where it is possible to store our motorcycles for 6 to 12 months so we can continu our trip next year.

Countries where we would possible like to store our motorcycles are:
- Turkey
- Georgia
- Azerbaijan
- Kazachstan
- Uzbekistan
- Kyrgyzstan

Does anyone know if it is possible to store our motorcycles in one of the countries named above for about one year? How about visa and customs regulations? Maybe some other good tips or useful advices about crossing these countries?
Hope to get some good advice.

Thanks!

Hi mate
Welcome to the HUBB. Please try the search function at the top of the page. A lot has been written already. This link will help with info on storage in Kyrgyzstan: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ral-asia-68484

been to central asia last year. the country I would recommend for bike storage is definitely Kyrgyzstan. Customs regulations are very easy there compared to the rest of the stans. Just like other bikers passing thru last year we did not even get a temporary import document on entry - so technically we could have sold the bikes there and leave the country. A friend of mine had a replacement engine flown in to Bishkek without any hassle with customs.

I know a guy in Bishkek who works as a guide for tourists mostly from Germany. He speaks excellent German and a fair amount of English. He has a house and a garage where he stores bikes for people from all over Europe - a good base for trips over Central Asia. Don't know how much he charges for this service but you might work out a deal with him.
If you're interested send me a PM and I can provide you with contact details.

Hello From Kyrgyzstan.
I live in Sukuluk just out side of Bishkek. I don't have all the information on customs but could ask some questions if you would like. The main problem is that the laws change here a lot. What I can do for you is provide a place to store your bikes. I am an American living here and have an orphanage. If you have any more questions you can pm me and we can talk.

Have a great ride.

Mac

Hi Mac,

thanks for your reply. A place to store our bikes would be great. Through different contacts I now know that Kyrgyzstan is probably the best place to store our bikes. We can continu our trip next year.
We have one other contact now in Osh but I would like to compare options (which is a luxery :-) ) and see what feels right. Because in the end we are planning to leave our motorcycles there for appr. 12 months.
I would definitively appreciate some more information about storing the bikes at your place and maybe the regulations involving leaving our bikes there. Although I read that this shouldn't be a problem.
How interesting that you have a orphanage in that part of the world. Certainly not something you hear often. How long are you living there now?
Hope to hear from you, take care

cheers
Dave

Hi. We are a bunch of swiss living in Osh. At present we store 5 bikes for travelers. We also are able to give you a hand in case you need to do some work on your bikes. Workplace, tire-place next door, shipping address if needed.. CHeers
