HELP! Accommodation in Siberia Russia!

One of my friend is now in the town called Chita, in Siberia Russia on the 12th August 2011.
And he's heading to the town called Nerchinsk tomorrow morning, however. There's no informaion on accommocation in that town and nearby towns.
He's planning to travell from Chita, to Nerchinsk, Mogocha(Могоча),Skovorodino, Sibaki, Blagoveshchensk, Kridle(spelling not sure),and Khabarovsk. And we cannot find any informations on motels, hotels, and hostels. If anyone knows something, please let me know ASAP. Please help us! He doesn' have any camping equipments. And I'm writing this to help him from Japan. Thank you!

Hi,

Check this tread:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...aypoints-50860

it has a huge amount of information regarding accommodation, shop and fuel stations in that area.

If your friend does not have a Garmin GPS to upload the file, he can view it with GPS Visualizer and manually get the info he needs.

Best of luck and safe rides to you and your friend,
Adrian

Sounds like that GPS file is useful. But in any case don't stress.

We travelled through there a few years ago with no GPS and no ideas about accomodation. In towns we just asked people or ended up meeting the local bikers and always found somewhere cheap to sleep if we had to stay in a town overnight.

There are fuel stations, cafes and motels all along the Trans Siberian Highway.
Distances vary but generally within 100 and 200km maximum distances.
Turning off to towns that have been bypassed increases the availability.

more questions!

Thank you, both of you for your replies!!!
My friend reached the town Nerchinsk this afternoon safely, then he found a good motel there which was 30km away from the town and the road was not very good in conditions from the town to the motel. And in the GPS, it shows there is no motela and hotels in that town. So we have a slight hope for the towns he is heading to for the next several days.

However, if you guys have been to the town Mogocha(Могоча),Skovorodino, Sibaki, Blagoveshchensk, Kridle(spelling not sure),and Khabarovsk, could you please let me know if you remember the name of the hotel that you stayed or where it was? :helpsmilie:

Tomorrow(Aug 14th), he will be in the town called mogocha. He has no idea where he can find the accommodation. Any small info will be ok for us.

Thank you so much for your help in advance!!!

Thanks,
Lily

Accomodation

I've just come in the opposite direction. I camped at side of highway (out of sight) so cannot answer all your places - but there seem to be options at most villages if you ask (keep saying "Gastinitsa?"). Here's some specifics I did use:

Blagoveschensk: Hotel Druzhba Tel 376140. On Ulitsa Kuznechnaya at river Amur end. Good basic hotel, 1500 rbl night, secure bike parking 150 rbl, right in the middle of all the promenading action. Recommended.

Kharabarosk: Cheap hotels did not seem to exist. Old Intourist hotel dominates skyline near water front and cheapest room was 2700 rbl excl breakfast - I didn't use, but it is well located 9and the town is worth a day or so). Local branch of Iron Tigers motorcycle club has clubhouse and happily provides free accommodation there. A little way out of city - but really friendly people. GPS location is n48 31.926, e135 02.582, sorry don't have street address. I think there would be someone there almost everyday and evening. PM me if you want phone contact details.

Vladivostok - If he's going there again Iron Tigers will provide free accomodation - and it is a mecca for motorcyclist travellers passing through city. Again PM me for more info.

All the best

I'm not an expert on the region, but if your friend got the superb file referred before he won't have any problems finding accomodations, I guess... More, for the info I have from the region, people are so friendly that travelers are often invited to stay at private homes... what I think will be a great experience.

I will be two months from August, 15 riding from Magadan to Wien, with camping gear but expecting mainly to spend the nights at little hotels or private homes. And not worried, perhaps too optimist :)

This hotel sounds useful. I can book mark it if you tell me how close to the river and the naberezhnaya (esplanade) it was? I have Kuznechnaya on my map, but want to estimate where the hotel was so I can bookmark it. If you can estimate the distance from the river (or how many streets to cross between it and the naberezhnaya) and tell me what side of the street it is on (as you face the river), would be great thanks :thumbup1:

Good info. Will add it to the bookmarks.

We left Vladivostok on 8th July and travelled west back to the UK and we found no real problems finding hotels - just 3 days rough camping in Siberia. We found that by asking locals about hotels often found us tucked away places that we would never have found plus we were invited to stay with people as well (we speak no Russian but managed to get our message across by using a phrase book but I did learn how to read cyrillic before I went - best thing I did).

Russian people - especially in the east - were particularly welcoming and it was so humbling to be given so much by those who had so little - a truly life changing experience.

Welcome to those who know!

The World would be a far richer and truely wonderful place if more peoples followed the genuine attitude and example of such people, untainted by politics or unbridled ambition.

Travel teaches us to learn from those who don't travel.

I was moved by this words!
Thank you sooooo much everybody for your useful information!!!
I gave this all messages to my friend. As everyone told me, he ased for a hotel when he arrives mogocha yesterday, and the taxi driver took him to a good motel where the owner wife cook great meals for travellers, so he could take a good rest there. However, he couldn't reach Skovorodino today. May be he missed the sign because of the constructions. And he is now somewhere between Skovorodino and Targan. He's heading off to Shivaki tomorrow morning. I told him not to be worried because you guys are here for him!!! Thank you for all your support!

Travellers teach me a lot!!! Thank you xoxo
