Kazkhstan-Uzbekistan

Hi Folks, end of May I plan to pop in to Uzbekistan. I will go through Astrachan and Atyrau. What is the best way to enter Uzbekistan from Kazakhstan? I plan Beyneu and then Karakalpakstan but it is hard to gather info on that border crossing. Is it open for tourists? Also, I red this part of Uzbekistan experienced problems with petrol availability in the past, is it still so? how much is petrol in Uzbekistan now?

Rgds, Jarek

I used this border crossing in 2008 from UZ To KZ Without any problem. Przekraczałem to przejście cztery lata temu. Żadnych kłopotów. Typowy bałagan jak na wschodnich granicach.

Yes that border is open. For an idea of what it looks like around there, I have some pictures here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...=545121&page=2

Petrol/Diesel in Uzbekistan

We drove from Shavat to Yamalla (KAZ border 24/7)
there was A LOT of petrol stations. Most of them had petrol. Of course, in the desert part, it was scarce, but still one to 100km there was.
But it was real pain with diesel. Sometimes, we had to ask locals in the village or town, which pump has diesel. Most of them has the stand, but no fuel..
So be prepared.

1 liter:
3000 SUM for Petrol (1 EUR)
1600-2000 SUM for Diesel

fuel in uzbekistan

look out for people sitting at the side of the road with what looks like a cooking oil bottle, they are often selling fuel on the black market

also two thirds of the way up the gravel road from Beyanu, by the village there is a fuel station on the left use it you will be glad you did
