getting a car/bike in mongolia
 

hi, i am planning to head to mongolia for a couple of month. Once over there i will need transport without a driver. it appears nobody is renting out cars without drivers. can anybody give me advice? for what price could i purchase a basic vehicle there for? all i am looking for is basic reliability.

Hi, if your looking to buy a bike: when in rome.... they all ride russian urals, everyone knows how to fix them, an they are hard as nails, new they are about 600euros, there is an auto market about 2km northeast of the centre of ulaanbaatar, be sure to bargain hard though, they are 2 strokers but shouldnt be too smokey, you can get parts everywhere in mongolia for them,
if your after 4 wheels, i would go for one of the russian 4 wheel drive vans, they are petrol cos the diesel freezes in the winter, they have those russian 4x4's too but you can live in a van, its an amazing country though be careful of drunks in the towns, enjoy! r
