Georgia exit point

When you enter Georgia, they will ask you at which border crossing you plan to exit the country. Trying not to outrule any options, i said, i don't know yet. The guy says, well, can I write 'red bridge'? I said, ok, whatever.

Big mistake. The exit point specification goes into your bike's customs document, and it is binding. When I tried to leave the country at some other border crossing, they would not let me out, as it was not the exit point specified in my customs document.

So what do I do, I asked. You can go (all the way back) to Tbilisi Customs Department office and have your customs document changed, they said. Or you may go to the specified exit point and return immediately. This will produce a new customs paper wit the then (hopefully) correct exit point specified.

Welcome to the caucasus.

Greg, thanks for the info! Too bad you had to figure all this out the hard way - not fun!

To help others easily find the info, please ALSO post your border crossing experiences in the - guess where? Border Crossing database - menu on left, Planning, Border Crossing. You will have to register but it's painless. Use same user id and pw as on the HUBB to make life easy - they will be merged soon-ish.

Thanks!

Hmm... all İ see is a giant form with tons of questions that do not pertain to my story (and are way too time-consumıng to read, understand, and answer properly).

Sorry.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
