Fuel Stoves in Russia Mongolia

Hi all

Just wondering what type of fuel stoves people are using when travelling from UK/Europe to Vlad in Eastern Russia particularily when travelling by Four Wheel Drive.

Is anybody using denatured Alcohol in an Origo marine stove and if so is it easy to find.

I will welcome any advice thanks

Callum

Travelling on 2 wheels back to UK from Vlad last summer we used a MSR multi fuel stove burning unleaded petrol which is plentiful.

Ditto to the above. We used an MSR multifuel and it performed brilliantly. Another plus side is that there is always petrol available from your bike tank (may not be quite so easy if you're in a diesel 4WD).

Unfortunately I can't shed any real light on the availability of metho/white spirit/other stuff.

Fuel for stoves

We took a 11Kg bottle of calor gas and supplemented it the a 'Kelly kettle', also know as a 'volcano' kettle for boiling water were ever practicably. This setup lasted the length of our 6 months camping trip throughout Russia and the Stans. I haven’t got around to weighing the bottle, to see how much gas is left, so I am not sure how close we were to running out! We did see gas bottles out there but not often, but at any town in Russia if you asked, I’m sure you could get one and discard yours. The Kelly kettle just burns twigs you find lying around, it was worth its weight in gold. These multi fuels stoves can burn diesel, though more messy, but if that all you have it will do.
