Fires across Eastern Russia

I don't think this has been reported here before -

State of Emergency Declared Due to Fires in Eastern Regions | News | The Moscow Times

I guess that explains the haze in the Air over northwest Kazakhstan.

We'll keep an eye on this. We'll be heading further east towards the end of next week.

Stuck in Zlatoust (been here 2 weeks already) as Pony Express lost our shocks in Moscow, then found them, then decided they couldn't go on the plane (even though they arrived in Moscow by plane) so they must be sent by road :( but maybe all that's happened for a reason.

In 2010 we had fires around Moscow. It was so bad out in Mos Region that even the cat and dog refused to go out of the house at our dacha. Not much likelyhood of that this year - so far!

On a positive note, lack of rain in the east should mean low water levels so rivers will not be as problematic as some years.

I am not sure of the relevance or location but there is an interesting satellite picture showing 'temperature hot spots' on the first post on this thread on another site/forum
Russia declares state of emergency as hundreds of wildfires rage across northern interior - The Moscow Expat Forums

I have not looked at the other link in that post.

Now that we are a bit further north (about 200ks south of Barnaul) the haze is really noticeable. It was hot and windy today also so I image that hasn't made things any easier.

It's interesting coming from Australia we generally dont here much from fires in other parts of the world (apart from Califorina). I suppose here they don't generally have the same property (and life) impacts when they burn in such vast unpopulated areas.

Thanks for posting.

We are in Barnaul today and heading down the M52 tomorrow(then heading East after Mongolia). It has been 35 degrees almost all the way from Moscow in the last week so no surprise about the fires.
