Ferries Iran to Kazahkstan?
I know this sounds a bit ridiculous/desparate, but at the moment I'm looking at ANY options. (I'm on the road, got the Uzbek and the Iranian Visa & now was told that Turkmenistan Transit Visa procedures have changed for the worse....)
So.... Are there any ferries that connect from Iran to Kazahkstan? Has anyone done this before, ie is it advisable to do by motorcycle? Bjorn

What exactly is the new problem with Turkmen transit visa?
No first hand experience but from Kazakhstan to Iran look also via Baku (Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan, then Azerbaijan-Iran).

They now say that they need a Letter of Invitation. (2 weeks ago, when I applied, they didn't need this). Big problem for me...

getting the LOI shouldn't be a problem. There are a variety of hotels in Ashgabat that can fax you one straight out, you don't even need to stay there. Contact Stantours who could arrange it for you more or less immediately. It would be faxed to the embassy where you will pick up your visa. Turkmenistan is one of the most interesting countries in the world and I would do anything to avoid missing it if I were you. Where else can you see craters in the desert full of burning natural gas?
