Crossing into Kazahkstan from China

Hi!

I m in China and I m planning to buy a motorbike. The plan was to ride from China to the "stan" countries. I was thinking to cross the chinese border into Kazahkstan.
So I m looking for someone who can answer my questions...

My first problem is that I don t have a Chinese driving license ( Neither a French motorbike license, but I have a French car driving license though). I know It can be a problem an the Chinese road, but my real concern is about the border crossing. Do they really ask for the license? It can seems silly but sometimes they don t really care...

Also what kind of paper do I need?

Well i have thousands of questions but I don t want bother you...

So if someone can give me some informations that would be amazing.

All the border crossings I have been trhough, in north south central America, plus a fair amount of eastern Europe, they ask for the passport and vehicle rego details. I have never had to produce my licence at anytime, except North America, and they would not know what an Australian endorsement for large moto is anyway

So, go with the car licence of you feel safe, remember if you have a prang, you will have issues

Ahh, yes the bike is registered in my name, so that may be the telling point, and they do check the names on the rego papers to see if it is you.

Done

to let you know!

I do it quick cause I m in hurry.

So I bought a second hand chinese bike ( 100 dollars ) 2 hours from Urumqi. Was not easy.

Drove 10 days in Xijiang, Cross the border 2 days ago, took time. I was lucky because the customs were really nice ( they also gave me a paper to make the crossing throught Kirgizstan easier).

I don t have any papers of the bike except a seling bill. No plate number and no licence.

Thanks to you all for your help.

At the Kygryz border crossing they asked for nothing on my bike. This was not the case elsewhere. Tadjik's asked for my licence once and rego many times.

Uzbek's rego papers just only.

Khazak's licence, rego, insurance.

Just to note my rego certificate is printed on some plain paper with a water mark so that it doesn't mean much. A few times they went looking for the 'stamp' but were happy enough when I told them that was it.
