Kyrgyzstan: Looking for good mechanic & address

Hi,

As already posted in the BMW maintenace forum, my rear shock seems broken (dripping oil). I'm currently in Khorog/Tajikistan and hope to get to Osh in one piece. I'm considering sending a replacement rear shock to Osh via DHL. Has anyone got an address in Osh where I could ship it to? And does anyone know a good & reliable mechanic there to fit it, or (even better): Does anyone know a mechanic in Kyrgyzstan who can fix rear shocks? (F650 Dakar, 2005 model)

Thanks a lot!
Bjorn

Kyrgizs help, I hope

Hi Bjorn,
MotoEdde wrote to ma asking if I culd herp with contacts to ship out of Kirgysztan.
I met an agent at Manas airport that helped me when I was there. I flew out and was inexpensive ('do quite funky! YouTube - Flying from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to Delhi, India ON A BIKE!)
The airline I flew was Galaxy air. They fly south, toward airports in the subcontinent.
I still have a few telephones of contacts there and they may be able to help you with repairs. I busted the suspension of my Dakar there and so did Moto Edde, I think.
The agent at Manas airport is Farhad air Cargo and his number is 0502321919
I have his work telephone number notated as: 693772 which I think is a Biskek landline, but I'm not sure of the local area code.
I met a local rider in bishkek Vitaly, he must know about mechanics in Kyrgyzs. His tel: +9965022531279.
If you need other help or contacts shoot me an email or reply to this and I will give a couple of mobiles to call, just friends but may be helpfull. If your problems persist I know who can help you in almaty (they may know who can in Bishkek or Osh).
Also, you can call Yosi, the man who runs Shakura guest house in Bishkek. His wife is Kyrgyzs. They are lovely people and I think her family comes from that part of the country. I'm sure they can help you with an address to ship stuff to if you need so or to find a transport company/van/geezer to move your bike. Ask them, of course, but I know they have have helped lots of people stranded there. They are well seasoned backpakers. 996312666326 and 052453866
I hope this helps, Good luck.
Fernando

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
