Chain & sprocket

Hi,
I'm preparing a trip to Mongolia. I have a 650gs and my route will have a lot of off-road, and more than 40000km. I just bought a did x chain but I guess I will need a new chain & sprocket somewhere....
Can I find one in Irkutsk / Krasnoyark / Novosibirsk?, or should I take one with me?
I emailed (in english) NBSMotor in Novosibirsk about this, but never got an answer.
Does someone has any information on this?
Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Paulo

You might want to get your new front/rear sprocket and DID-X ring 520 from home and carry it. Not so easy to find elsewhere-
I came across a chappy in Greece who proudly showed me his spare Chinese chain for his wife's F650...and it turned out to be 6 links short! and the quality was ...well... ahem! so I went to Trikala and begged the bmw dealership (now gone) to sell me one which was mounted on new bike as he had no spares-
Lesson learned- I now carry mine-
Ditto for specialist tyres/tools too IMHO- some get lucky - others are prepared to wait a costly long time for DHL then you get the import taxes...
BTW for tyres, contact Colebatch a very helpful fellow on HU here- as he knows of an importer-

you will find good quality japanese chains in 520 size in the main bike shops in Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok these days. If you fit a new steel rear sprocket before you go, you wont need to change it. But you will need a new front sprocket (and chain) every 12-20 thousand km, depending on the terrain and riding style. You can get the chains in Russia, but you should bring your own spare front sprockets

For tyres in Russia, contact Denis (aka Dean) ... DeanRus here on HUBB or via email / facebook contacts listed on his website .. [url=http://motorezina.ru/]MOTOREZINA.RU -

Tires

Hi, I too will be in need of tires probably by the time I am in Uzbekistan or so. Is there any hope of finding tires in Tashkent? I ride a KLR650:

Front Tire Size. 90/90-21.
Rear Tire Size. 130/80-17.

No chance to find new tyres in Tashkent. PLenty of threads here detailing the only places to buy new tyres in central asia are both in Almaty ... and its wise to pre-order your tyres from them.

Colebatch,
many thanks for the info.
(for the tires, I'm already in touch with Denis)

Cheers
