Buying a scooter in Georgia
 

Has anyone got any experience with buying a scooter in Tbilisi, Georgia. Thinking of getting a 50cc scooter (I believe that's what i'm limited to with a UK driving licence) to ride around Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and then across to Kazakh and the stans on the ferry from Baku.

Any info on cost and legality would be really appreciated.

I am in georgia now and i met a local biker who will sort this out if you want.

He gave me his number so i will call him in the morning and if he says its cool to do so then i will pass on his details to you.

Should be easy what is your budget on this as will give a good idea and what type of scooter (crunch box/auto ect ect)

Ok i got a guy that will sort all this for you here in Tibilisi and can reg bike in under 1 hour

For a UK licence if 16 years of age then 50cc bike if 17+ then 125cc for basic CBT test you must take but you have to use L (leaner) plates.

I only passed my full licence in March 3rd time lucky!


I would make some kind of extra fuel systems maybe a jerry can type on the back. dont over plan as more fun this way

I am 25 and hold a full driving licence. I don't have CBT. What does that limit me to?

Budget is probably £500-1000 and would prefer good second hand than new.

Am I right in thinking that I'd be able to ride this bike to Baku and over to Aktau on the ferry then continue through Uzbek, Tajik and Kyrgy without the need for a carnet de passage?

you don't need a CDP for the 'stans.
Only for Iran, Pakistan and India should you go in that direction.

I have no clue what a CBT is so I can't help you.
Look at your driver's license, are you allowed to drive a motorcycle (cat A)? Yes? then just ask for an international driver's license where it is also marked that you can ride cat A and you're fine. Whatever a CBT is, is probably some local regulation in the UK so nobody else gives a damn but the UK...

CBT is a local UK learning process. What international border guys and police will want to know is does it have "A" category vehicles (motorcycles) written on your plastic licence?

They will not be interested in the locally specific detail of what cc you are limited in until how many years etc, or whether or not you have passed your CBT. Its either got A category approved or not, thats all they will be interested in. If you havent passed a CBT then I dont see how you could have a "cat A" licence.

You can also wing it. Cops rarely ask for anything more than your passport and vehicle registration docs. They are far more interested in stolen vehicles than unlicenced riders. You will stand a good chance of talking your way out of it, or you can just buy an invisible ticket to the local policeman's ball if an eagle eyed policeman does miraculously spot it and does not just wave you on anyway.

Its unlikely to be a show stopping problem.

Lol, just be sure not to show this to any cop in the EU as they will all know it's fake... as a driver's license is from your country and not from the EU. I once had a guy with a "world citizen passport"...

Its exactly what a UK licence looks like. Its says UK inside the 12 stars of the EU ... just like these fakes.

Looking at the pics http://thenovboss.com/gallery.html, and comparing to my own UK licence, they look exactly right for a pre-2013 licence.
