Bike registration differs from driver, problem to get into Russia?
 

Hi,

I've real headache... I'm planning to travel through Russia shortly, I do have all needed paperwork together (visa/insurance etc...). However the bike I'm using is registered under my fathers name because I live abroad so I couldn't register under my name in Germany. My father writes my an authorization to use the bike (even in Russian) but I'm afraid this is not "good enough" as someone told me. Anybody experienced similar situation and knows what to do? Eventually go to notary? Russian embassy?

I have not put this to the test but a Letter of Authority, naming you as having permission to use the vehicle and signed by the Registered Owner, is what is required under the rules.

As well as the vehicle Registration Document (original) and an Insurance Certificate issued by a Russian Company.

Probably a good idea to have the authority letter in Russian as well as the 'home' language.

thank for your post. I found the solution to my problem which is: move my place of residence back to Germany than transfer ownership of the bike to me. Sounds simple but it wasn't clear at all if this is possible because I live in China and have my (real) place of residence here. Anyway, it is possible to change it quickly :thumbup1: by fax authorization...

You can drive vehicle with "letter with attorney", but you'd better make notarize translation of this document. Main rule in Russian bureaucracy is "more stamps - more opportunity" :-)
