Astana, Kazakstan to Mongolia. Any ideas?
I am currently stuck in Astana as our car has broken down, the rear shock absorber ended up in the boot and no amount of welding will save it now. Anyway we dont think we can get any further with it, so we are just going to leave it in Astana and hopefully get a bit of money for parts. My two friends are heading home for the olympics, but I was hoping to make it to mongolia, by hitchiking or hopefully getting hold of a motorbike somewhere along the way.
I am going to be in Astana for a couple of days to get my mongolia visa sorted, does anyone have any contacts in the area or any ideas of where to pick up a bike? I am thinking that maybe russia (barnaul?) would be the best place to get a bike and do it all very unoffically and see if i can blag my way through the border, I have two weeks and whatever money i can get for the car so I may as well give it a shot! You might be in luck my friend, if you can get to Almaty there is a group doing motorcycle rentals there.
