semi-synthetic oil in Ulaan Baator

Can anyone tell me please, what is the availability of good quality motorycle, semi synthetic oil in UB? We shall be servicing the bikes there when we arrive in May 2005, and need to know whether to take our own oil with us.

Motorcycle-specific oil availibility in Ulaanbaatar is very unpredictable. You cannot depend on it being here. There is syntetic auto oil available easily. I live in Ulaanbaatar and I only see motorcycle oil in the stores every few months.

I've been using auto oil in my BMW R100GS with no trouble so far.

Hi Scott

Don't know if you'll get this, but we're here in Mongolia and due into Ulaan Bataar sometime Thursday... on a truck. (Sue's bike broken down and parts on their way to us at UB) We're trying to get in touch with the Khongor Guest House where we hope to stay, but the phone number we have doesn't seem to work! Do you have it please... you can contact us on dakargs@yahoo.co.uk or later on mobile +4413027771822735 Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

We know that Khongor have a place for us to work on the bikes, service them etc. They were to expect us next week!

Hi Mick and Sue: Glad to help if I can. I'll try to send you a text, and I'll try to contact the Khongor Guesthouse for you. I have secure space to work on bikes/cars as well if you need it.

Where are you now, and from what direction will you be coming into UB? I will try to send you an email.

Regards, Scott

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
