Anyone taken bike on Kazakh train lately? (or know any Almaty shippers)

Hi,

After trying repeatedly (and failing ) to find adequate transport for my bike from either Bishkek or Almaty (several of the options I found fell through: bike too big for cargo bay / truck not going any further than Lithuania / $5,500 through HKG / customs will cost €2k, etc) I'm now thinking of going back home the long way.
So... has anyone been on a train from Almaty to Aktau recently? Bribes / prices? Any idea on how I would go about doing this? Any info on Azeri transit visa also welcome!

If anyone happens to know a freight forwarder who has actually dealt with a bike before that would also be a nice alternative!

Thanks

Have you spoken to one of the bike shops? I will ask my friend in Alamaty if he knows.

Hi

if you have any luck freighting by train could you pass on details and prices to me on here or at yeeeahbuggy@hotmail.co.uk. I have a Volkswagen Buggy that is poorly in Uzbeckistan, we would preferably like to get it home or to a autotrading 'capital' so we can get the best deal for our machine! Any help would be very much appreciated.

Does anyone know if it is possible to train freight a vehicle in Uzbeck for that matter, we have a friend in Dushanbe who could offer us some kind of oasis for a few weeks whilst we rearrange our lives.

Cheers

Yeeeah Buggy!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
