Anyone crossed from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan recently?

Hi,

did anyone cross from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan recently? A few months ago all borders where closed due to some issue between border guards of both sides. I'd like to know if everything's back to normal now?

We're planning to cross at Dostlyk, between Andijon and Osh, in a few weeks.

Thx!
Olaf

I'm curious about this also.....

My Uzbek visa ends on the 20th.

Hey Snoah,

if you do take this route in the coming days, we'd be interested to hear from you!

Hi, the issue with the guards happened last year at the border north of Osh.
1 border guard killed on each side.
We crossed last year in July and there was no problem at all at the border directly at Osh.
Anyhow the situation can change any time in this area. We could not cross from Kirgistan to Tadschikistan back then, as there was the shooting in Khorog on the Pamir Highway.
Best is to talk to each traveller you meat on the way. They have the best and up-to-date news. Embassies, etc are usually not very helpful or up-to date.

I crossed last night

Uzbek side took a few hours. Mostly because I didn't have insurance on my moto. Make sure you buy insurance before you get to the border crossing. Entering the country I forgot to ask if I needed it. About 15 stops by police later and no one asked for it.. It wasn't even in my mind. I had to ride back to the police post a few km back to buy moto insurance.

Kyrgyzstan side was 1 man looking at my passport and moto papers. No import documents. No declarations. About 15 minutes with chatting to the friendly border guards.

Both Uzbek and Kyrg want tourist. It will be clear that you are not local and they will let you through as quickly as possible. The uzbek side even had the Declaration papers in english. They didn't when I crossed into the western border.

insurance? That is new we didn't need it last year for Uz, Tadj or Kyrg. so this was uz insurance?

Thanks for the update Snoah, that's good news.

Strange about the insurance indeed, nobody asked us a few years ago when we crossed Uz, Kyr and Tad.

In the mean time we've also crossed into Kygyzstan. Border is open but like Snoah said in a previous post: the Uzbeks won't let you exit unless you have road insurance!

They called an insurance agent who made up a policy which cost us about 7 USD per bike. Without a doubt the most useless insurance I've ever bought ;)

We r in Bishkek right now and learnt the there is no insurance Ava for bikes as there is no bike work shop. However we r still trying to find out.

Our bikes r coming in by air cargo to Bishkek.

If any one can throw in light here would appreciate.

Kayjay,

to ride in Kyrgyzstan it won't be a problem if you haven't got insurance, nobody asks. It is the Uzbeks who won't allow you out of their country if you haven't got the Uzbek road insurance, at least at the Andijon-Osh border.
