Aghanistan: Wakhan Corridor: first female rider?

Hi all,

I am trying to find out if the Wakhan Corridor has ever been ridden by a female motorcycle rider before?

I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, it is already not a place where a lot of people have been for obvious reasons, but this summer we are going to do it. We are just thinking if Kim would be the first woman to successfully go all the way and back through the Wakhan.
If this is so, then this is an argument to find some sponsors.... ;-)

Please advise if you have anything interesting to say about this!

We are all ears!

I've been on the tajik Wakhan-side and am not sure what else then being in Afghanistan is the advantage of the other side. The mountains are the same, but you're in a dead end track. As far as I understood you get a visa straight forward in Khorog.
A female rider has a blog (Three wheels across the Himalaya: Cycling in the Afghan Wakhan – Is there a road somewhere?) about having been in the Wakhan (cycling on a recumbent), but not every traveller documents his journey.

Hi,

The advantage... why do we travel? Even if it's a dead end...? Because it's a dead end! We will afterwards continue all the way to Mazar e Sharif through Afgh so it's not to say "because it's in Afgh."... btw, in Boroghil you can hire a local for some trekking on yaks/donkeys/... so that's also something we would be interested in doing for a day or two after being on the road for several months.

Thx for the cycling blog, but we'll do it on motorbikes, so not the same... :scooter:
I know Sambor went there and also of another expedition before that, but as far as I know, no female motorcycle rider has done it, that's the question/answer I am looking after as it's an extra motivation for my wife of course to push to the end of the "road"... :thumbup1:

As for the Tajik side which also belongs to the Wakhan I can definitely say that women travel there every year on motorcycles.

I was there together with my girlfriend last year travelling on two F650GS. Unfortunately she had an accident there near the village of Langar. Not a good place for that...
I know of at least one other women who has done it on a motorbike last year - also the Tajik side of course.

The Afghan side consists mainly of donkey tracks an a few scattered villages. I can't imagine riding a motorbike there - the Tajik side is already rough...

I know for the Tajik side, that's not what I'm after. The whole purpose is to do one of the most dangerous/difficult/challenging "roads" in the world...

We will be going on DRZ's 400 E model and it will be on the Afghani side as I said. We will be coming from the Tajik side until Khorog though, but that's not a problem. There is a big difference on the other side of the river, but I've never done the Corridor before, so now this summer it's time for that!

I am not sure if Ola was first but she rode with me in 2010 to Sarhad. Suzuki DR350
