Accomodation in Moscow

Hi all. I am an Aussie currently doing on a West to East trans russia, mongolia, kazakhstan trip on a KLR650 and will be leaving here (kostanay, kazakhstan) tomorrow to head back to russia. I will be moving towards Moscow during the next week and need to do some bike work. Does anyone have any info on cheap places to stay in or near Moscow?

Also, i will need to get a green card for travel into Europe. From Moscow I plan on heading north to Murmansk and from there into Norway and back down to mainland Europe. Is there anyone out there between moscow and murmansk who's address i could use to have the green card forwarded to for me to collect on my way, or does anyone have an idea of a good place to send it to?
I have done some research on this site and have found some info but computer crashed and cannot find it again...!
Thanks for any help.
Michael

Moscow is uber expensive but there are a few hostels. Cant recommend any cause I have never stayed in one (can tell you a lot about business hotels tho) ... but there are a few hostels reviewed here:

Cheap accommodation in Moscow: Moscow hostels review -- WayToRussia.Net Guide to Russia

If you really want to save money, ride up to Vorobyovy Gory in front of the university on a friday or saturday night with your bike and talk to the local bikers ... its a real meeting place. One of them will take you in and offer you a place to stay for sure. They also wioll be able to put you in touch with people who can fix what you want to fix. Russian bikers are very helpful to foreign bikers.

Colebatch knows Moscow better than most. Motobelka knows it best, but she is out of town right now.

Cheap or reasonable priced accomm is a problem.

As Colebatch says, the University area is teeming with friendly bikers on Fri and Sat nights. As is Tverskya Place, but these are mostly Harleys. Still I say, if its got 2 wheels I talk with them. After all we share the same World and a very special pleasure!

Although I cannot help directly with accomm or known repair places I am here in Mos, with a bike, for the next 2+ weeks. I am happy to try to assist if I can, guide you round a bit - and certainly share a or 3.

PM me as you approach or are in Moscow

a cheap place!

I have stayed at Galina's flat, which is just that a Russian apartment turned into a dorm room and a room with just two beds. The dorm room is 400p and the room with just two beds is 1000p. I push my bike into the stair well and locked it under the stairs(But i only have a small bike). There is space outside to park lock it.

Her adress is ul Chaplygina 8 No 35, Chistye Prudy Moscow 103062, RUSSIA galinas.flatatmtu-net.ru

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
