Yellowstone

Hi People, I hope to be riding in the Yellowstone park area around the 2nd week in September doing the tourist thing. Anyone got any suggestions for route(s) around the park to get maximum value out of the visit. Only problem is I can't walk very far, 1-2 Ks would be OK but steep gradients and rough terrain is for me a non starter. Also any suggestions for budget accomodation in the area as I now find tents very difficult to get in and out of and it's not only because of a surfiet of beer, growing old can be a pain. Ride safe.

Check out the small cluster of people near the road in the lamar valley of yellowstone. They usally have spotting scopes to see the wolves. Most are more than willing to let you look and share some wolf lore. As far as cheap accomadations....good luck finding some close to the park. The fringes and further out probably will be cheaper.

I stayed at the City Center Motel, West Yellowstone, a couple of years ago. I thought it was great value-for-money. Friendly owner & staf too .. plus there's a really good bar on the opposite side of the main street (Madison Ave) that serves a great pint of summer wheat beer .. :thumbup1:

Cheers

I too will vouch for West Yellowstone area being the most economical place to stay in the Yellowstone basin. Be certain to get your motel room early in the day. As in prior to 3:00 pm.
The inexpensive motels are the first to fill up. As the day turns into night, the more expensive ($100+) rooms will be the only ones you'll find available.

You should know the 2nd week in September is no longer the summer season in Yellowstone. Indeed, snow is possible. Perhaps even likely. Prepare accordingly.

In 95 , I know its been a few years BUT just down the hill from Old Faithful are 1 room cabins . No kitchen but with toilets and showers we paid 35 a night and they were real nice . I don't remember the name of them but I found them on Yellowstone accomadations site.
You can walk up to and around the area in a few minutes.

Good Luck
