Canada to USA

Do you get the gattica treatment when crossing Canada to USA/Alaska by bike....the eye scan, fingerprinting routine now in place at US airports?

Hi Simmo,
A friend and I did a quick loop up to Dawson City,Tok, Haines,Scagway last summer and crossed the Can/US border a couple of times.
The retina scan consisted of the border guards asking us to take our sunglasses off...
No hassles and did not even get off the bikes... Cheers

p.s. great route by the way...

Don't know about Alaska, but I just crossed into the US, Washinginton State the other day and they didn't even ask me to remove my helmut. Have a CDN passport, so don't know what it would be like on an Aus passport.

Thanks guys. Used to be no problem for Australians to go to the states as a tourist without a visa, but now we have to be fingerprinted, with retina scanning in the pipeline, when arriving by air. I was tempted to visit the Exxx Exxxxx as a side trip to one I am possibly making to Canada later in the year, but think I will pass. cheers

Just FYI Solo,

Here in Vancouver we get only a little snow. The daffodils have been out so long they're now finished, the gardens are in full bloom generally, the cherry blossoms are finishing, and it was 70 degreesF 21C and beautiful for most of the last month. Working on my tan now...

and no, I'm not kidding!

A hundred miles north of here it's not quite as nice, but not bad.

See you in North Carolina June 18-20!

As for fingerprinting, Canadians only need a passport for entry into the US, but Aussies definitely get fingerprinted when applying for a visa, as well as many, if not most, others.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
